Is Leaders insured? Do movers accept tips? Get all your moving questions answered from one of our experts.
When it comes to moving questions, our Director of Operations Jason Farley has heard it all. Save yourself the extra phone call or Google search. We asked Jason to provide you answers to the questions he hears most commonly, and to give a little advice to anyone searching for a Indianapolis moving company.
Q: Do movers take tips?
A: Yes, moving is a personal service. It’s customary to tip, but not expected.
Q: How far does my liability coverage extend?
A: A common misconception among consumers is that if something is damaged, then the moving company will automatically replace that item. In truth, the mover’s first course of rectifying the situation is repair, and replacement of that item only happens if it’s deemed appropriate.
For example, it would be impossible to repair a broken dish, which could lead to the client receiving a replacement. This also depends on what coverage the consumer elected, and whether it’s depreciated or replacement coverage.
Q: Are you insured?
A: Yes, we are insured, but there are different levels of coverage: minimum (we give the actual cash value coverage at no charge), depreciated, and replacement. So just asking “are you insured? “ is a vague question and could get a vague answer from some movers.
We’re very open with our claims. The industry standard is pushing 20%, but for us it’s in the single digits.
Q: Do our employees work on a commission basis?
No. We prefer to have the integrity that comes with someone’s pay not being dictated by overselling a move.
Q: Does Leader’s use contractors or are movers full time employees?
A: All of our movers are employees of the company with hourly wages.
Q: Can you give a guaranteed quote online?
A: Yes, we give guaranteed quotes for every move. Out pricing model is what makes Leaders different from our competitors. Almost all moving companies price by the hour. This means your price can change by the end of the move. With Leaders, your price stays the same no matter how long it takes.
Generally the customer will submit inventory over the internet. When we review a customer’s inventory it’s extremely common to have questions. So while we absolutely can give a binding price online, there are generally questions that spring up which require a phone call or face-to-face meeting.
Q: Will you need us to disassemble and reassemble my bed?
A: It’s up to you. We disassemble and reassemble beds all the time. However, to save money on your move, you can disassemble all your beds yourself.
Q: Can the truck park on my driveway?
A: Predominantly, yes. This is especially true for local moving, which is typically all straight trucks. Our straight trucks are about 36 feet long and equal the weight of about 3 or 4 cars. This is no different from what you already have on your driveway.
